According to Hindu tradition, when Goddess Lakshmi enters a home, prosperity follows. Her footprints, Laxmi Charan, are symbolic markers of her divine visit, and placing them during pooja is an invitation for her continued presence and blessings.
These sacred Shubh Laxmi Charan Paduka, crafted from cow dung, are used in rituals during Diwali, Lakshmi Pooja, Dhanteras, and other auspicious occasions. The tradition involves placing the paduka (footwear/footprints) at your home's entrance or in your pooja room, symbolically showing the path for the goddess to enter and bless your household with wealth, health, and happiness.
Cow dung, being associated with Gau Mata (who herself is connected to Lakshmi in many scriptures), amplifies the sacred intent. It's considered one of the purest substances for ritual use: naturally antibacterial, spiritually purifying, and ecologically harmless.
Each set of Charan is handcrafted by rural women artisans whose grandmothers performed the same rituals, who understand the deep reverence attached to these symbols. They shape each footprint with devotion, knowing it will be used to welcome the divine into someone's home.
During Diwali, after cleaning and decorating your home, place these Charan leading from your entrance toward your pooja room or safe (where wealth is kept). Light diyas along the path, and invite Maa Lakshmi with prayers and pure intention.
But even beyond ritual, these Charan are beautiful reminders of a mindset: that prosperity is a blessing to be invited, not demanded; that wealth flows where reverence and gratitude reside; that our homes should always be ready to welcome the divine.
May her footsteps never leave your threshold.
